John Muir Trail 2012
As the second part of my Little Triple Crown in a Year expedition, I headed out on the 211-mile (or 215, depending on which guidebok you check) long John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
It involves a long haul without resupply for more than 100 miles through high, exposed alpine peaks going as far in attitude as 13,100 feet.
Understandably, logistics for this trail are tricky, including:
- what kind of gear to carry for a trail with such variations in climate
- how to get to the trail
- how to get permits
- how to resupply
- how to get over the passes before the lightening comes and tries to kill you
- how to deal with bears
